WATERLINE

Hello fellow WWWA Members,

Wow, how the summer has flown by. I hope it has treated everyone great. As we move into the fall I hope everyone will take a moment to consider the additional hazards that come along with fall and colder working temperatures.

We are excited to announce that WWWA has recently added Jade Slaymaker to help assist WWWA in many tasks to help us continue to improve and expand our services to WWWA members and others in the water well industry. Her contact information is This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. or 307.258.4412. Please welcome her aboard the next time you happen to speak with her!

As always we want to remind all members that if you have any pertinent issues facing your business please make sure you contact your area WWWA board member to make them aware of your concerns. Also, your feedback to us is always important! WWWA strives diligently to continually improve its membership commitment, services and involvement.

Stay safe and we look forward to seeing everyone at the 2017 Annual Convention on January 18-19, 2017. We are planning the upcoming event and everyone will be getting invitations soon. We welcome all ideas for speakers and topics so please let us know if you have a suggestion or two!

Thank you for your commitment to our industry and to WWWA.

Sincerely,

Travis Hueller

WWWA President

WATER RESOURCES DEVELOPMENT ACT OF 2016 MOVES ON TO U.S. HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES

The U.S. Senate passed the Water Resources Development Act of 2016, which includes the Water Supply Cost Savings Act, on a vote of 95 to 3 on September 15. The bipartisan Savings Act (S.1642) now moves to the U.S. House of Representatives for action.

NGWA supports the bill as a way to reduce the federal, state, and local costs of providing quality drinking water in small communities by facilitating greater use of well water systems as an alternative to traditional, centralized, drinking water systems.

WORKING SAFELY AROUND HAZARDOUS MATERIALS & CONTAMINENTS

by Gary Ganson, CIH, CSP

The first step in working safely around hazardous materials should always be a hazard assessment review.

The OSHA standard mandates companies must conduct a hazard assessment to identify the appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and properly train employees on how to use it. OSHA compliance officers will review written hazard assessments for completeness and accuracy.

In the case of water well drilling, this requires assessing the chemical, environmental, and physical hazards workers will have to deal with on each and every drill site. And don’t forget biological hazards such as snakes, ticks, and poison ivy.
